  1. entender, compreender:
    • I received your note, but I did not understand it. (Recebi seu bilhete, mas não o entendi.)
    • But we cannot disappoint Grandma and Grandpa Smith, and that is what family is all about! Do you understand?! (Mas não podemos desapontar o vovô e a vovó Smith, e é disso que se trata família! Está entendendo?)
  2. acreditar, estar sabendo, ter a informação:
    • I understand that you have information for me. (Estou sabendo que você tem informações para mim.)
  3. estar ciente

un.der.stand, intransitivo

  1. subentender:
    • In the imperative mood, the word “you” is usually understood. (No modo imperativo, a palavra "tu" geralmente ficar subentendida.)
      Nota: nesse sentido, é usado principalmente no particípio passado
